CEOs set ambitious targets for their companies to reach net zero carbon but their second line leaders (and their real estate leaders in particular) struggle to know where to begin, how to measure success, and where to find the biggest bang for their buck.

Arcadis recommends establishing a clear baseline of your current scope– one, two, and three emissions against which you can develop a strategy, implement solutions, and monitor performance improvements to your asset portfolio.

Secondly, use what you’ve got. Use advanced analytics to interrogate data that already exists in your building management systems. Identify opportunities for low or no capital investment sustainability interventions.

Third, go for the easy wins. Identify and deliver tangible projects that will give you an immediate incremental benefit, such as LED lighting, fleet electrification, or even on-site power generation.
