Healthy and continued growth for the Smart Building technology sector

The Smart Building is a concept that audio-visual (AV) technology is finally beginning to catch up with. There are different takes on how a building can be smarter, with many leading architects concentrating on the fundamental design to create a space that is conducive to work or easier for people to get around. But in general the term is taken to mean a workplace or public area, such as a hotel, which has full connectivity both internally and to the outside world, as well as the latest IT and AV equipment.

Right now there is little data and research on how the Smart Building technology sector will develop and grow in the future but it is clear that the different technologies being installed in next-generation premises are showing healthy and continued growth. Many leading developers, manufacturers, suppliers and installers of AV equipment are members of international trade association AVIXA (Audiovisual and Integrated Experience Association). In addition to representing its membership and organising training courses, AVIXA researches the various sector that make up the AV market.

This work is done under the auspices of IOTA (Industry Outlook and Trends Analysis), which produces reports that detail market performance and predicts how sectors might progress in the future. In its most recent research IOTA found that the global AV market was worth $231 billion in 2018, which was expected to increase to $247 billion this year (2019) and reach more than $325 billion by 2024. If that projection is correct it would show a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of almost 5.7 percent.

Smart Building Conference (SBC) is a full-day conference produced by Integrated Systems Events.
